Ferrari P80/C one-off track car unveiled

Ferrari's latest one-off model is based on the 488 GT3 race car; it's taken 4 years to develop.

Ferrari has just taken the wraps off its latest creation, the P80/C. It is a one-off track-only model which uses the Ferrari 488 GT3 race car as a base, due to the fact that it provides 50mm extra wheelbase over the standard 488 GTB road car. The initial brief for the P80/C was to take inspiration from the likes of the 1966 Dino 206 S and 330 P3/P4, which all started their lives as track cars but spawned road-going variants.

The P80/C is a heavily reworked version of the GT3; and since it does not need to conform to any sporting regulations, it sports a large new front splitter and a much more aggressive rear diffuser.

Ferrari has stated that the car has been sculpted to create a cab-forward effect with a more aggressive stance, including a wrap-around windscreen. The brand has also paid homage to both the Dino and 250 LM, with the flying buttresses that converge near the roof line. The car's bodywork is widest over the front axle and then narrows sharply before broadening again, near the rear. Due to its track-only nature, the car also features smaller headlights, while its rear features a concave rear windscreen and aluminium louvres on the engine cover.

Although Ferrari has not confirmed any performance figures for the P80/C, in all likelihood, the car uses an unrestricted version of the 3.9-litre turbocharged V8 from the 488 GT3. Ferrari claims the car is five percent more efficient than the GT3 – an efficiency needed to utilise the unrestricted engine.

The car has been designed with a 'racing set-up' in mind, which features a carbon-fibre wing and 18-inch wheels. It can be converted to an 'exhibition package' by removing the aerodynamic appendages and having it fitted with the 21-inch wheels.

The Italian carmaker says that work on the P80/C began in 2015, giving it the longest development time amongst all one-off Ferraris produced until date. The name was chosen by the anonymous collector who commissioned it. Ferrari hasn't revealed any details on its cost, yet.

Ferrari launched the 488 GTB in India back in 2016 at a price of Rs 3.88 crore (ex-showroom). It is powered by a 3.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 which produces 670hp and 760Nm of torque.
